As the world energy crisis intensified and the climate deteriorated increasingly, wind and other renewable source have been valued by more and more governments. In recent years, wind power industry has developed rapidly, while wind measurement for wind farm is a very important factor to good and efficient development of wind power industry. Most of existing wind measurement instrument on current market for wind farm transmit data by wire, or use GSM, GPRS and other wireless way need to pay, these products have wiring complexity, high cost and low reliability problems. With the development of wireless communication technology, ZigBee technology has been increasingly applied in various wireless communication systems for its low-power, low-cost and easy networking advantages.This paper applies ZigBee technology to data collection for wind farm, design a new type of meteorological data collection instrument for wind farm. The instrument uses ultra-low power MSP430 microcontroller to measure wind speed, wind direction and other meteorological data in wind farm, transmit data through ZigBee wireless communication technology, have real-time data display and large-capacity data storage functions.This paper mainly introduces the principle, hardware and software design of meteorological data collection instrument in wind farm, design the hardware circuit of wind speed and direction sensor, develop a ZigBee wireless communication hardware platform, transplants TI Zstack, and adds application functions in its application layer to achieve data collection and processing functions.This meteorological data collection instrument in wind farm has advantages as low power, good network scalability, large memory capacity, easy operation, it can be applied to various of wind projects in wind farm, it can provide detailed and accurate data for wind farm projects as wind resource assessment, site selection of wind farm, model selection and installation of wind turbine, reliability research of wind turbine and design of power transmission system.
