With increased awareness of environmental protection, scarcity of oil resources and high price of oil in the world, increasingly stringent IMO standards of ship emission, energy saving and emission reducing has become the universal public voice in society, people are increasingly turning to clean energy. As wind energy is widely distributed, non-polluting, so the sailing comes back. Different from the old sailing ship which propelled the ship as the main propulsion plant, modern sail-assisted technology provides auxiliary propulsion power. This thesis chooses the rectangular wing sail as the research object, and some exploratory studies of the control system of yaw slewing of wing sail are carried out, in order to provide some ideas and evidence for further development of the wing sail auxiliary propulsion system.The research is carried out from aspects as comparison and selection of sails, selection and calculation of slewing bearing device, design, modeling and simulation of yaw slewing control system. First of all, major sails are summarized and collected, including their basic principles, applications, and problems and so on. The main factors of sail, such as structure, aerodynamics, and control systems and so on, are comparatively analyzed, as well as the characteristics of the selected target ship, then the appropriate sail is selected for the target ship. Second, from the point of airfoil, the theory of wing sail and the main factor of wing sail aerodynamic performance, such as plane shape, aspect ratio, section form, camber ratio etc, are analyzed and researched. Then the main parameters of wing sail are designed and the analysis of aerodynamic performance is obtained by the wind tunnel tests. Furthermore, according to the design approaches of slewing mechanism of the lifting appliances on ships and the wing sail structure features and work principium, the load on slewing bearing devices are calculated. According to relevant standards of slewing bearing slewing, the three-row roller slewing ring is chosen as the appropriate slewing mechanism, and the load of slewing driving mechanism is determined. Finally, the design of yaw slewing control system of wing sail is completed, the main components of electro-hydraulic proportional control system is selected. The dynamic mathematic model and the Simulink simulation model are established, and system performance is simulated and analyzed.Through analyzing the results of simulation, the yaw slewing control system is able to keep the accuracy without considering of interference. Even under interference, the accuracy of angle of wing sail also meet the requirement of system.
