In today's rapid social and economic development, China has entered an unprecedented urbanization process, rapid urbanization drived economic growth, but also brought some negative effects. Many cities having "the big city defects " becomed more prominent, mainly including urban population increasing, the rapid growth of motor vehicles, the relative shortage of land resources, thus the traffic problem has become the constraint of metropolitan space development. Although many cities invested in infrastructure for transport, however due to the rapid development of urban growth in traffic demand, the city still faced the challenges of growing transportation. In recent years, the Chinese government has been fully aware that road construction will never solve the city's traffic problems alone, the fundamental way to improve urban transport is develop public transport, especially large-capacity rail transit, this is exactly the point for the TOD concept.Firstly, this paper describes the basic theory of TOD, including background, definitions, characteristics, composition, type and the main function of TOD, the thesis makes a basic work; Secondly, analyses the relationship between land use and the urban rail transit and proposes the strategy of TOD urban rail transit land development; In addition, through the detailed introduction Hong Kong, Tokyo, Stockholm and Copenhagen urban rail transit model of successful experiences, at the same time, thinks urban rail transit in China, uses the SWOT to analyze compared these cities, urban development of TOD strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges for the construction of domestic cities supporting reference; Finally, summarizes the above, combines with Tianjin rail transit situation, proposes countermeasures and indicats the Tianjin rail transit prospects.
