As the hoisting and conveying industry booms, the challenges brought to the crane manufacturer is increasing. The crane property requirements are also more stringent, not just in improving existing products constantly, also in researching and developing new products. Owing to the increasing programe and reducing cycle, it not only requires technology develops to improve their abilities, also requires practical development tool strictly and urgently. Alongwith the rapid development of crane, there will be more performance requirements for structual design and the structure will be more complex. The load calculation of the crane is very complicated because of it's complex structure and various working conditions. The finite element model can be applied to automatic calculation of the crane performance in various working conditions. But the FEM's applying is limited by long computation time and poor general compatibility in different products. The preparation work of the FE model will be more hard if the structure is complex, and the efficiency will be greatly reduced. So it's very important to calculate with analytic method based on solving the problem successfully.This paper takes the strength analysis of the main arms of QAY300 ground crane producted by Xuzhou Heavy Machinery Corporation as example. The structure properties are computed with summarized analytic method formulas, and are compared with the results with FE method. The analytic method formulas are improved to increase the calculation results'reliability.To present the computing platform's reliability and the calculative accuracy, this paper includes four parts:Part 1:Improve the analytic method formulas. We deduce the formulas according to the offering formulas and related information. The formulas are realized with MATLAB program, and the corresponding results can be put out.Part 2:FE analysis. We use the mature FE analysis methods to compute some performance of the QAY300 ground crane. It prepares for results comparison.Part 3:Compare results. We compare the strength analysis results with two methods by performance chart in different arms conditions. The achieved conclusions is the basis of formula modification.Part 4:Develop computing platform. We present the concept and tool of the development computing platform. This paper summarizes the deficiency of the platform and expectes its upgradation and application.Eventually, the computing platform can improve designers'efficiency. It consistes of every fact in crane design, such as hydraulic and electrical system. The further exchange and cooperation with the designers should be made to improve the effectiveness and practicability of the developed computing platform.
