With the rapid development of urban mass transit in our country, the traction system as the key of rail transit vehicles, becomes the top priority in localization. In the process of manufacture, loading, debugging and maintenance for vehicle traction system, some routine tests for the traction converter and the auxiliary converter are needed. For the reasons that the location of vehicle converter is hard to be directly measured, the real-time requirement of data must be good, and the consideration of the surveyors' security during the online debugging process must be made, it's difficult to satisfy these requirements by using the traditional tools like multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.Based on the 11th five-year national science and technology support key project-development of 100% low-floor vehicles, and directed towards the low-floor vehicles' traction system, this thesis proposes and designs a novel monitoring system which is based on virtual instrument and embedded hardware platform, and plays well in the satisfaction of the requirements from vehicle monitoring functions. The monitoring system mainly consists of a lower computer monitoring platform and an upper computer monitoring software, which is capable of realizing the convertor's needs for online monitoring, fault diagnosis, and remote update of applications, etc.The lower computer's monitoring platform is the key to the entire monitoring system, and has critical influence on the system's function. First of all, this thesis analyzes the detailed requirements of 100% low-floor light rail vehicle's monitoring system, mainly including the convertor's on-line monitoring, fault diagnosis and vehicle-mounted network interfaces. Furthermore, based on the hardware resources in PowerPC processor and combined with the requirements of the convertor monitoring system proposed, the hardware platform of the monitoring system under PowerPC has been constructed. In the thesis, the design ideas of hardware platform is introduced thoroughly, together with the description of the principles in the drawing selection of eight layers PCB, as well as the description of the modulation of isometric line. Afterwards, the transplant of embedded Linux system into the hardware platform is realized, including Bootloader, Linux core and root file system. At last, this paper finishes the application development of network communication, fault diagnosis, etc, and realizes the function of application's remote update based on embedded Linux system.The experimental results are presented in the thesis, of upper computer's monitoring system, based on LABVIEW, with the upper computer's virtual oscilloscope software, based on VC and fault diagnosis. The results has proved that the lower computer platform based on PowerPC described there far plays well in realizing the function of online monitoring of 100% low-floor Light rail vehicle. We hope this paper will provide some effective reference to the development of other monitoring systems in our country.
