The rapid development of metropolitan need the support of transportation system to adapt. As a large capacity, fast, safe, energy saving, comfortable, clean way of public passenger transport, rail transit system becomes the backbone of transport system to adapt to the development of modern metropolitan. Metropolitan rail transit network include the main railway passenger line, inter-city rail transit and urban rail. Rail transit at different levels has different characteristics. With the emergence of scale effect of rail network, only with the formation of an integrated rail transportation system, the leading role will be full played to mass transit transportation system in the metropolitan area. And it is very important to make reasonable decision-making of network joining model. Based on combination of theoretical study and practical engineering application methods, study from the basic theory on joining mode of rail transport, establish selection method of joining mode and take the Pearl River Delta region rail network as an example for application, the results show that the interval DEA model established has certain applicability. The main research results are as follows:(1) The metropolitan rail transit is divided into four different levels based on function positioning, and the characteristics of them are analyzed on passenger traffic, line settings, equipment use (including vehicle types and power supply standard), and operation organization(including target speed value, traffic organization, fare collection System).(2) Based on explaining the meaning of joining mode of rail transit network, two main joining modes are deeply studied:transfer hubs and co-line operation. First, on the basis of studying joining modes between the rail lines, transfer ways of passengers at transfer station are studied, then, summary development overview of co-line operation and built the co-line plan from three aspects:realization way, co-line type and operation plan. The operation problems and corresponding solutions are discussed.(3) Based on elaborating the basic principles of joining mode decision-making, Interval DEA model is chosen to determine decision-making evaluation. First analyze the basic concept and evaluation ideas of DEA model and establish a fuzzy interval DEA model of the special needs with the actual situation, then build index calculation system of the model and study operation process and results analysis of this model.(4) Take the Pearl River Delta region rail network as an example for application, outline different levels of rail network of the Pearl River Delta region, then decision-making model is applied and a joining mode recommended plan are proposed of rail transit network of Pearl River Delta region.
