Based on the multi-body dynamics software ADAMS/Car, This paper takes a heavy-duty off-road vehicle as a reference, establishes an similar model of heavy vehicle with reference to the object. With the result of the simulations, we do an analysis about the different steering models impacts on an multi-axis heavy vehicle handling and stability performance, and get the most optimal steering model for the vehicle. Meanwhile, this paper does an exploratory study on the impacts of the frame elastic properties on a general car handling and stability performance based on the simulations on small car.Taking the improvement of heavy vehicle handling and stability performance as the ultimate goal, the paper describes the overview of development and research of multi-axis heavy vehicles at home and abroad, principle and development of multi-axis steering technology. On the basis of analysis the main factors to ordinary vehicles handling and stability performance, we do an further analysis on the special factors to the multi-axles vehicle due to their unique strcuctures, build the heavy vehicle's virtual prototype model, which contains many subsystem model, for example, frame subsystem, suspension subsystem, steering system subsystem and so on. Then, in accordance with national standards, the simulation of this vehicle model is done, and we edit the test data in the post-processing, and the test results are analyzed to obtain the optimal steering model. All-wheel steering model allows the vehicle has better adaptability and stability control:it ensures that the vehicle has a smaller turning radius, that is, the better through performance at low speed through; while, at high speed, it ensures the vehicle the better capacity to keep stability of the whole vehicle. In addition, a simple car model is established in ADAMS/View, and some simulation comparisons between rigid and flex frame car models are been done to obtain answer to the relating question proposed forward. The elastic property of frame effects not only on the transient response, but also on the steady-state response. Based on the theory about the effect of frame property on vehicle performance. The work done in this paper verifies the some parts of the theory, however, we must do more research to find out the more accurate conclusions for the theory of frame property. All of the tests provide a basis to research about impacts of frame features on heavy-duty vehicle handling and stability performance. The conclusions are obtained for specific models, which has the actual meaning, the result of the paper confirm the value and significance of research.
