Along with the development of social economy, the speed of urbanization and motorization accelerated,Both developed and developing countries, all suffer a more and more serious traffic problems, While The plane crossroads is the"bottleneck"of city traffic jam . The traffic signal control system is directly related to the passage in urban intersections traffic conditions, so it has always been the important means of ascending urban traffic capacity. The traditional method of traffic signal controller and introduced from abroad traffic signal control system and controller though in some extent can better solve traffic problems, but with China's urban traffic situation, these systems are also exists some deadly imperfections and insufficient. This condition needs our technical personnel design intelligent traffic signal controller according to our urban transport situation.This paper begin with the study of urban traffic signal control theory, analyses the now start relatively popular traffic signal control algorithm, and the application of fuzzy control algorithm in traffic signal control have been researched. Through consulting the material of relevant traffic signal control, and the traffic signal control system composition, function and control mode have been studied, in reference to the previous achievements, this paper design an intelligent traffic signal controller based on FPGA. This design is divided into hardware and software parts, Hardware including main processor and peripheral, implementing software parts with VHDL. Finally, this paper will use VAP language design the method of urban trunk road intersection coordinated control algorithm we designed on VISSIM traffic simulation software, According to simulation results of Lanzhou Qing yang road, this design traffic signal control scheme effectively reduce traffic stops and reduce the traffic time.
