The social needs and grade requirements of city bus is greatly raising with the accelerating of domestic urbanization process and the improvement of traffic conditions. In recent years, although bus technology has made great progress in china, there is still a wide gap compared with Western developed countries. The backwardness of bus technology mainly reflected in the technology of bus body. The research and development of city bus body based on the digital prototype technology was adopted according to the development status and domestic market demands for city buses. The technology can not only improve the developing speed and quality of bus body, but reduce development cost and shorten the development cycle, thereby promoting the rapid development of bus industry.Firstly, the mathematical model of Bezier, B-Spline, NURBS curves and surfaces were analyzed, the theoretical basis was provided for the bus body surface design. The body surface smoothness was discussed, the foundation was laid to ensure the quality of the bus body surface.Secondly, the conceptual design of the city bus body was conducted through market research. The concept designsketch of the city bus body was drawn, and the bus body design plan was determined by comparing several schemes. It provided the basis for establishing 3-D digital model of city bus body.Thirdly, the digital model of city bus body was established under the Pro/E environment. The body surface modeling, windshield design, body floor design, and body frame design were described in detail. Meanwhile, the virtual assembly of both bus body skeleton and bus body overall was conducted, thus realizing the digitalization and visualization of the city bus body and providing conditions for further refining and processing of the city bus body. Besides, the natural frequencies and vibration patterns of body skeleton were known through model analysis of city bus body skeleton. It laid a foundation for further analysis.At last, on the basis of analyzing the stamping process of front wall bumper, the simulation processing of tensile stamping die was performed based on VERICUT software. Test result showed that the tensile stamping die has a good manufacturability. It laid the foundation for the stamping production of city bus body covers.
