Gear drive is the most fundamental in mechanical drives. Face gear(FG)drive has many unique advantages as a new type gear drive, especially in high-power and high-speed applications. This paper studies the generation of tooth profile of deflection-shaft FG, the modeling of deflection-shaft FG transmission, the dynamic analysis of deflection-shaft FG transmission. The research on the generation of tooth profile of FG is made up of the derivation of the equations of FG tooth, and of the visualization of FG tooth surface and fillet surface. The limiting equations of undercutting and pointing of FG is derived on the base of the velocity in processing and FG geometry, and the limitation of FG tooth width is gained. The contact trajectory equation of FG drive is derived on the meshing characteristics. The contact ratio of FG drive is analyzed without installation error. The modeling and movement simulation of FG are made up of four main points. The first is the generation of the coordinate data of FG tooth profile. The second is the calculation of the biggest and smallest diameter of the FG with MATLAB. The research of the dynamic analysis of FG drive is based on the concentrated parameter vibration theory and the finite element method. The three-dimensional dynamic model with multiple degrees of freedom for coupling vibration of the face-gear transmission system is developed, which includes the flexional, tensional, axial and rotational motions. Using the Wilson-θnumerical method, the dynamic responses of face-gear transmission system are analyzed. By the finite element analysis software ANSYS, the vibration modal of FG drive is calculated. The influences of pressure angle, contact position and the teeth number on the modal are discussed.
