Orthogonal non-circular face gear drive is proposed as a new type of gear drivewith variable ratio between intersecting axes based on the study of non-circular bevelgear drive. It incorporates the characteristic of non-circular gears, noncircular bevelgears and face gears. This gear drive can be used to transmit movement and motionbetween intersecting axes which has potential application prospect can be applied toengineering machinery, farm machinery, textile machinery, automobile and so on.Therefore, the research is of theoretical significance to research on orthogonalnon-circular face gear drive.This issue derives from Natural Science Foundation of China, to explore the basictransmission theory, universal geometric design method, analysis and manufacturingmethods of orthogonal non-circular face gear drive, finally, the experiment is performedto verify the feasibility of design principle and processing method. In the thesis, theresearch work has been organized aiming at orthogonal non-circular face gear drive asfollowing:According to the spatial gear engagement theory and differential geometry, thebasic transmission theory and meshing coordinate were studied and proposed.Meanwhile, the parametric equations of pitch curve, addendum curve and dedendumcurve were deduced. The manufacture method of localization the bearing contact wasput forward, and the parameters and spatial cutting path of the gear shaper cutter wereanalyzed. Furthermore, the parametric equation of tooth surface of the face gear wasobtained by combining the parametric equation of cutter’s tooth surface and conjugatetooth profiles theory. The method to avoid undercut was discussed based on theundercut critical condition of spatial gear. Meanwhile, the rational span of tooth breadthwas obtained by analyzing the pointing of orthogonal non-circular face gears. Theformulas of its pressure angle, angular displacement, angular velocity and angularacceleration in transmission process were deduced. Then the change characteristics ofpressure angle and the kinetic characteristics were analyzed based the formulas whichwere deduced before. Furthermore, the influence of eccentricity ratio, driving gear’sorder, order ratio, initial input angular velocity and some other geometric parameters onpressure angle, angular displacement, angular velocity and angular acceleration werealso discussed, and the kinetic change law of orthogonal non-circular face gear drive under serious influencing factors was known. The natural frequency of this gear can beobtained based on the basic modal analysis theory and finite element analysis (FEA)software, and then the influence rules of order and eccentricity ratio on naturalfrequency of orthogonal non-circular face gear were analyzed; In addition, thesimulation machining and characteristic analysis system of orthogonal non-circular facegear was developed by the use of application programming interface(API) inSolidWorks. The system was used to analyze the selection method and principle ofcorrelation parameter in orthogonal non-circular face gear design, and the3D entitymodel and assembly were gotten. According to the research of this gear’s design andmanufacture method, the3-axis milling theory was proposed to manufacture the entityof orthogonal non-circular face gear. Then a rolling check was performed on this entity.Furthermore, the transmission test of orthogonal non-circular face gear drive was alsoperformed on the experimental bench. Finally, the correctness and feasibility of itsdesign method and manufacture theory was verified according to the relative analysisbetween experimental result and theoretical arithmetic result, laid foundation oftheoretical principle for the practical application of orthogonal non-circular face geardrive.
