Modern higher education in China has a long history of almost a hundred years, for which the past ten years is the fastest period both in the number and scale. With the development of the system of higher education management, there is a tendency of school consolidation and campus extension. The building plan in colleges is a strategic project for the campus development. Nowadays the important rule of man-oriented should be used, which means the campus planning should pay more attention to the daily life of the teachers and students. For the plan designer and constructor, it's quite important to hear the voice from the teachers and students as well as their real demands. They should not only think of the appearance and comments but know more about the needs from the users on campus to reduce the conflicts between the plan and the reality. Therefore, it is quite necessary for the designers to listen to the users , especially their comments.Considering the users on campus as the evaluation subjects for the campus planning, the thesis takes the main campus area of NingBo University for instance and uses the cognitive map in the study. First of all, after understanding the ideal map in users and investigating the cognitive map of the campus, the thesis superimposes the elements of the cognitive map and analyses the strong elements as well as the poor ones. Secondly, Based on the results above, the thesis then establishes the evaluation index system for post-evaluation of the campus planning and designs questionnaire to collect the information according to the evaluation index system. Besides, it contrasts the information from the investigation with the professional evaluation. The research indicates that there are some differences in the evaluations between the designers and the users. In the end, applying the qualitative and quantitative analysis methods, the thesis has a comprehensive grasp of appraise in contents for the main campus area of NingBo University. What's more, it also poses some rational propositions for the campus planning.The cognitive map theory has been successfully adopted in the post-evaluation of the campus planning, which enriches the application space of the theory and provides some references on the campus planning for other universities.
