The water supply system plays an indispensable part in the infrastructure of a city. As the increasing of people's living standard, the reliability requirements of water supply increase , which needs to improve technology in the skills。For the reliability evaluation of water supply system, which will decrease the accident rate and boost the efficiency, as well as be accessible to select the optimum project. So reliability research of water supply system will become a new hot topic. Water supply system was divided into four subsystems in this article, including water source, water pump, waterworks and networks, and the basic theory in reliability studies would be utilized to analyze reliability of each part, the conclusions are as follows:The water supply capacity was analyzed, a qualitative and quantitative evaluation was made for the water supply capacity through examples. How the water supply reliability was analyzed according to existing hydrological data and the P -Ⅲtheory frequency lines. When it was supplied by the multi-paralleled water sources, obviously reliability was higher than single water source. Diagram of the pumping stations for the reliability was given, which was utilized to analyze reliability of each part of pumps. The pump station can be used as a repairable system, and a diagram was made for accident situations.The main facilities were analyzed according to the reliability systems, reliability could be boosted if there were more productive lines. Each unit was simplified, reliability diagram was made, and in the view of optimization engineering and MATLAB edit model, t the best remnant redundant can be got. Meanwhile, liquid chlorine with security trouble was researched, the danger caused by leakage of chlorine gas was analyzed, gaussian simulation model was edited according to MATLAB, which imitated the spread of chlorine, so it was significant for safety with chlorine. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of delivery was analyzed, and emphasized the significance of the whole water supply system. According to the MATLAB, the numbers of contacting pipes was analyzed, which showed if there were too many pipes, reliability wouldn't reach the requirement, if too least, it needed much more money and was not accessible for hydraulic conditions.Network system reliability was analyzed, network reliability evaluation was established, operating situations was analyzed when the pipe accidents, the reliability of water supply pipe system could be got according to examples. The results show that big diameters pipeline have high reliability; the reliability of the network produces essential influence to the whole system, so big diameter pipes are more accessible in design, and the reliability of the main pipes should be paid more attention to.
