This paper developed calculation software STSL for building steel structure engineering capacity statistics based on national independent research and development platform of computer-aided design software, which would gradually replace the current manual calculation methods, improve the efficiency of steel structure engineering capacity statistics, and facilitate the related work of the cost of construction.Deeply analyzing the reasons why China did not develop software for building steel structure engineering capacity statistics and the difficulty to develop it, this paper raised functional design key points on developing calculation software STSL and focus on key issues in implementation of software function and corresponded solutions. And the main work and results were as follows:1)By analyzing and comparing reinforced concrete engineering quantity statistics software, used VC++ object oriented programming method, built the section and node library of steel structure for STSL and addressed the difficulties, that section form numerous, node type complicated and changeable and difficult in using CAD technology, in developing calculation software for steel structure.2) According to characteristics of steel structure engineering application, proposed that steel structure statistical software STSL should be divided into three modules, which played to solve capacity statistics address respectively to forms of industrial plant building primarily with portal rigid frame, High-rise buildings primarily with steel frame structure and spatial steel structure building with complex structure.3) It provided three solutions for STSL node realization. That was to create node library connection for STSL by programming, load the structure model and internal force of node or input them and then complete automatic design, and through the interactive interface to add connection plates, bolts, welds, then take actions such as cutting for components, parts, finally created various forms of connection.4) Combined with characteristics of engineering quantity statistics, the calculation report was designed to output components for unit, detail output engineering quantity statistics of parts comprising components and relevant section sizes, lengths, materials, quantity, calculation formulas, and so on. The calculation reports were the important result of the steel structure calculation software STSL.5) It completed capacity statistics for the typical building steel structure making use of development work STSL, which verified STSL scientificity and preciseness.
