China entered a period of "explosively" quick construction, due to the shortening of construction period; architects often neglect or abuse the creation of public space when designing the university buildings. However, with the teaching model's open conversion; the function of building space's intensive development; the spread and wide application of information technology, students of contemporary colleges called for the space of more personality and independence. As the main theme of this paper, the space is explained as the virtual space which is subordinate to the inner of building entities, as well as demarcated by the enclosure of architectural entities, but does not include outer space of campus square. The main text was divided into three parts: the first part was the basic research of public space and the interconnected, interacting factors. The second part discussed form feature of public space of contemporary university campus architecture with the classification of spatial form and the analysis of classical examples, and analyzed how to shape space a sense of place by using focus and mix "inward" method from outside to inside: from the characteristics of geographical areas to the cultural connotation of public space of campus, and then to the psychological and behavioral needs of college students, then proposed topic of eco-design that reducing energy consumption with the reasonable use of new materials and new technologies and fully playing the eco-efficiency of public space. The third part was the integrated practice that the architectural design project of modern professional skill school which the author participated in. This chapter tried to give a reference for the practice of future campus construction by the analysis, organization, and summary of the design points of how to create the public space of multi-level, multi-type and multi-space atmosphere.
