| As the requirement of energy demanded from various industries increases a lot during the industrial society, large quantities of carbon dioxide gas release and the consumption of non-renewable energy arouse global warming and occurrence of climatic disaster and deteriorating human living environment. According to construction industry, large quantity of carbon dioxide would be generated during the housing construction processing. In the total carbon dioxide emission, 46.7% of total energy consumption comes from construction related area, which makes the reduction of carbon dioxide emission in architecture significant and imminent. Low carbon buildings have become the mainstream of the international development trend of the construction industry under the global implementation of low-carbon economy. As a developing country, there is a big gap between China and developed countries like Europe and America in aspect of energy use efficiency. The low carbon in construction industry has direct influence on mitigating global climate change as well as improvement of energy efficiency use.Due to their special geographical location, energy consumption of buildings in cold environment is so large that it represents strongly from the perspective of carbon emission. Therefore it is important issue concerning how to develop low-carbon architecture in cold environment. Campus buildings are one important point under the special cold environment for three reasons: In the first place, campus buildings in cold environment consume a lot of energy. In the second place, with the wide range of social identification, campus buildings could be a model for other low-carbon buildings. In the third place, campus buildings could be considered as one important city subsystem inhabited by many people. The subsystem application theory could be used to summary the low-carbon building development and energy-saving factors in order to promote the construction of low-carbon city development. In the context of global response to the growing urgency of climate change, this paper will discuss the advantage and disadvantage of campus design in cold region when facing low-carbon building trends, according to cultural characteristics, behavioral and psychological patterns and morphological characteristics.Along with low-carbon building design theory, we will discuss the feasibility of campus implementing low-carbon buildings, start construction of design system of low- carbon building in cold region campus, analyze the role played by various energy-saving factor. Summarize the opportunities and challenges, explain the responsibility when architect facing global environmental issues, and finally bring forward the strategic countermeasures and suggestions of developing low-carbon campus in cold region. |
