This paper rebuilt a conventional city bus to a Plug-in hybrid electric city bus, the structure and parameters of the power system are designed. The control strategy are analyzed and development also, which make the bus meet the design requirements on dynamic and fuel economy.Plug-in hybrid vehicle is an ideal transition product in the development process from hybrid cars to pure electric vehicle, with both advantages of that two kinds of vehicle. Especially according to the characteristics of city buses, when Plug-in hybrid technology is used on buses, there will be very good effect on energy saving and emission reduction.The foundation of Plug-in hybrid vehicle development is parameters matching, and the core is control strategy. This paper firstly calculated and selected the key components of dynamic system on the basis of existing scheme, to determine the power train matching scheme. Then it established all parts of the model with a simulation software ADVISOR which is based on MATLAB/Simulink, to establish simulation model of the bus.Based on these, this paper then studied Plug-in hybrid buses control strategy. To achieve good effect in energy saving and emission reduction, the key is control strategy. In this paper, the control strategy was formulated based on the analysis of Plug-in hybrid bus work mode, and the control algorithm was painted. After that, the control strategy is embedded into ADVISOR to be used in simulation analysis.When above work was done, the bus model and control strategy were used to simulate. And the typical Chinese city bus driving cycle, which represents the overall status of Chinese urban roads, was used in the simulation. The simulation results analysis was mostly on the dynamic performance and fuel economy. At the same time, pure electric mode was also simulated to investigate the bus'pure electric driving ability.From the simulation results, we can see that carloads of power and fuel economy can meet the design request, the engine, the motor and the battery work in good condition and in high efficient area. In addition, the battery can also satisfy the pure electric trip mileage requirements. So we have the conclusion that the parameters matching method and the control strategy are pragmatic and feasible, which also can provide necessary reference for future work and the hybrid technology development.
