In this paper, Based on the present development of high-rise building in China, the necessity of decision-making on the structural types is demonstrated; The merits and the demerits of sorts of structural types are discussed comprehensively. The improper selections of structural types and the causes are introductorily analyzed; Various of factors that affects the choices of structural types are discussed in the aspects of the functions of buildings, the internal-force of structures, the techniques of construction, the materials of buildings and the comprehensive economic effects of projects, etc. Accordingly a system of decision-making factors about the structural types of high-rise building is established. Finally, the methods of decision-making to select structural types of high-rise building are studied. The conclusions in this paper are as following:1. The decision-making on structural types of high-rise building is a system engineering involved in various of subjects in a integration. This work needs co-operations and co-ordinations of experts and engineers from diverse specialties, in which the experience in engineering plays a importance role. 2. The decision-making on structural types is a problem of multi-objectives integrative work, which is affected by various of factors. The object of this decision-making is to seek the greatest integrative economic benefit of buildings' construction under the condition of meeting sorts of requirements.3. In comparison of different structural types, qualitative and quantitative methods should be combined together.4. Fuzzy integrative appraisal accords with the characteristic of "soft" science of decision-making on structural types, so it is the first choice for decision-making on multi-schemes appraisal of structural types.
