Taicang Port Area, COSCO International City is loaded off the shore of the Yangtze River, in Taicang Area of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, deep-set HSkilometers in the estuary, it is 70 kilometers from Pudong Area of Shanghai City, 75kilometers form downtown Suzhou,300kilometers from the capital city--- Nanjing. This port area is renowned for her 20 squarekilometers land area and 9.7 kilometers deep water river shore. The principal philosophy in the distributing plan is to employ the above-mentioned resources rationally and effectively.As is known to all, the establishment of Shanghai International Shipping center is the hinge in the overall arrangement of the ports located in the delta of the Yangtze River. As one of the chief leaders of COSCO International City , the author of this paper realizes that the development of the COSCO International City in Taicang plays an important role in the establishment of Shanghai International Shipping center, and that the distributing plan of Taicang Port should be in accordance with the requirements, which the ports located in the delta of the Yangtze River are supposed to possess. In this case , the author connects the development of COSCO International City in Taicang port with the establishment of Shanghai International Shipping Center, what's more, he takes the development of this International City as one of the "wings" attached to the whole system of "one body, two wings", Basing of the principal philosophy, the author analyses the natural conditions, geographical location of Taicang Port in order to circumscribe the core area of Taicang Port, The status quo and prospect of both econoOmuy and transportation in the core area are further analyzed. On the basis of the anticipation for container traffic of the whole delta area of the Yangtze River, MFD model is employed to anticipate the quantity of containers and other transportation required before 2000.After the above analyses and anticipation, the author defines the function and characteristics of Taicang Port followed by the specific overall distributing plan of Taicang Port Area. The author also made far-reaching research on Vessel type anticipation, shore line utilization, land area arrangement, water area arrangement, container traffic control prospect and environment protection, etc.
