The Revitalization Of The Public Space In Urban Waterfront

Urban waterfront has once been an area with distinctive characteristics,which are either environmental or cultural. It is ignored and deserted today for some historical and social reasons,however. Based upon the analysis of the different conditions and comparison of many opposite examples,the thesis tries to present some assumptions on how to revitalize the urban waterfront.There are two lines which go through this thesis:1. Analyse the elements in waterfront in order to make the area unique and special in the city,and reconnect it to the natural and historical context.2.Try to think out the true principles buried beneath the surface of public space through the everyday "odds and ends",bring the sense of place to the urban waterfront and emphasize the importance of the element of human. As the main part of the whole thesis,the fourth chapter presents the principles such as combined "with nature","with humanities","with public life" and " with functions " in accordance with various practical conditions.Finally it summarizes the drawbacks that now exist in the Huanchen Waterfront in Hefei City and comes to the conclusion that has been repeated many times in the former part:Now it is time for the urban designers to put away their drawing boards for a moment and go to experience the colorful life in the city.There are five chapters in this thesis:Chapter 1:The mark of history Chapter 2:Public space Chapter 3:Elements of design Chapter 4:Principles and methods of revitalizing Chapter 5:Example analysis...
