The disabled and the elderly enjoy equal rights with the normal on participating in social lives. But for a long time, many aspects of social environment are only for the normal, such as public facilities in cities, facilities in living buildings and so on, they are all designed according to the normal's body dimensions, so many aspects of social environment don't suit for the disabled and the elderly. This thesis aims at designing living space barrier-free for the elderly and the disabled. For lack of anthropometric datum about the elderly and the disabled, In chapter 2, according to a conclusion that senility of the elderly could result in some changes on body dimensions, the thesis amends "the human dimensions of Chinese adults", and approximately arrives at part human body dimensions of the elderly; On the other hand, in view of some lower-limb disabled have strong dependence on wheelchair, the thesis gets to part approximate dimensions of lower-limb disabled in wheelchair by assuming that normal person sitting in wheelchair. In chapter 3, on the basis of an experiment which takes the disabled as the studying object, and applying the principle of biomechanics, the thesis analyses the motion ways of the hemiptegic and the double-lower-limb disabled, gets to the root of their barrier in living space, and presents some design schemes of interior facilities, which are barrier-free for them. In the light of physiological characteristics of the elderly, the thesis also arrives at some designing schemes of interior facilities, which are barrier-free for the elderly.Lastly, the thesis presents some designing schemes on interior facilities barrier-free for the wheelchair users by using the human body dimensions in chapter 2; at the same time, the thesis sums up wheelchair users' moving mode in bathing space, and designs barrier-free bathing space for wheelchair users.
