With the development of power network and computer technology, the software on fault calculation and protection relay setting is required to have better calculation speed, higher calculation efficiency and better-visualized character. For this reason, the general algorithm on fault calculation is researched in protection relay setting, and fast calculation on branch current is put forward for the first time in this paper. So the complete and quick fault analysis is provided for protection setting. Secondly, against different elements influencing branch coefficient, some accelerated measures are described. Fast method to calculate branch coefficients without fault calculation is presented. In addition, applying the oriented-object technique and the database technique, the software package with friendly interface and powerful function for protection setting is developed.
