With the coming of 21st century, the society of mankind has already entered so called information age. Communication around the world becomes more and more frequently, promoting development of science and technology with a speed that never occurred before. Under such background, educational theory and method are changing day by day. Today, the relationship between school campus and outside environment is closer than ever. Modern society need people with new kind of ability which is adapt for our new age. Traditional teaching theory and model can not match today's demands. Therefore, there must be great change in our education.The core of modern education is focused on quality-oriented education and aims to cultivate students who can fit for extensive needs-namely, complex education. When study in campus, besides of learning certain knowledge, students must grasp methods of study and research and learn to be responsible. Those new demands toward education will doubtlessly stimulate the turn of education pattern. As the beginning of one's education process, elementary school education should be changed at first. In the 21st century, teaching methods in elementary school are not only reflected in application of information technology, but also reflected in the reformation of courses. Students gain knowledge not only through teachers in classrooms, but also from books, internet, communication between classmates, even from newspapers, magazines, TV programs and so on. Thus teaching spaces in 21st century should not be limited to classrooms. Teaching buildings are changing to modernized and informationized buildings.The adjustment of educational theories and methods will result in teaching building design. The function of teaching buildings should be changed to match the needs of modern education. This research is carried out under such a background described above. It aims to analyze the changing of elementary education, discuss the developing trends of contemporary teaching building design, research into the design concepts, principles and methods of how to design teaching buildings that can fit for today's needs.
