Navigation and positioning are basic abilities of seaman. GPS is the most important navigation and position equipment for its ability to provide the continuous and precise ship position.In recent years, ship handling simulator play great role in the seaman training in fulfilling the convention. As far as the GPS module of ship handling simulator is concerned, what are the basic characteristics of it? Different from the training making use of real equipment (GPS receiver) or ordinary GPS simulator, the GPS module of the ship handling simulator must related to the position of the simulating ship, be able to provide the interaction with user and reasonable response according to the change of the ship position, futhermore, it must reflect the status of GPS system.In the first, the paper analyses the significance of the research of GPS simulator, the function the simulator should have and the research status of the GPS simulator now,. Then it presents how to make use of the navigation and satellite informations GPS OEM received to develop the GPS simulator in the base of Ship-handling simulator according to the motion rule of satellite and the characteristic that the orbit parameters of satellite are independent of the ship's position ,and put forward the main framework of the simulator .At the same time ,it focus on the problems involved in the developing of GPS simulator ,which including the collection of satellite navigation data ,the calculation of the satellite position ,the calculation of GDOP satellite select and the calculation of GPS position of the ship.
