Preliminary Study On The Ship Maneuvering Automatic Evaluation System Based On Ship Handling Simulator

At present, seamen theory qualification test has been paperless while the maneuvering part of the assessment is still assessed by the assessor. In the future, automatic evaluation for the later will be a trend of the examination reform, which can avoid assessor’s subjective factors. Relying on the research project of ship maneuvering automatic evaluation system entrusted by the examination center of the MSA, this paper preliminary built up a ship maneuvering automatic evaluation system based on the ship handling simulator which was designed by Dalian Maritime University.Test types in this system include three major categories, which are ship maneuvering, ship anti-collision and bridge resource management. The difficult of the first category is time determination of berthing and de-berthing; the difficult of the second category is automatic identification of ship encounter situation; the difficult of the third category is the assessment of the collaboration between people. Firstly, for these three areas, this paper builds a basic evaluation questions; secondly, for specific topics, determines the evaluation indexes combined with experts advice and relevant theoretical, then establishes membership function for each evaluation index using the fuzzy mathematics principle, then implements evaluation function; thirdly determines the recommended weights of each evaluation index using AHP combined with experts advice (in program module, people who written the questions can amend the weights according to the actual situation); finally weights sum of the results of the test of each evaluation index as the final results.In the system implementation part, this paper put the coach station in Ship Handling Simulator as a server-side, put the ship program of the ownership as test terminal, and use the VC++object-oriented programming language for server-side programming, including setting a test (tests selection, tests edition and tests saving), test file transferring, automatic assessment and data management. This paper use the FTP protocol to transmit test documents and relevant data between the server and the terminal examination, and use ADO database access technology to store and retrieve the manipulate data during test implementation and assessment results.
