Due to the environmental harm caused by the excessive consumption of solid clay bricks,a kind of traditional building material, the country has published the provision to confine the use of solid clay bricks, and urged to research and develop new type materials for building wall. Meanwhile, with the development of energy conservation in buildings, solid clay bricks could not meet the need of thermal insulation any more. In order to protect environment and economize resources, the city of Chong Qing utilizes its own abundant shale and gangue resources, and manufactures the fired Shale-gangue perforated bricks. In this article, through througu Experimental study on shear strength of perforated brick masonry and anchorage behavior of steel tie bar and expansion bolt in perforated brick masonry, available results have been gained. These results is helpful to the institution of fired perforated brick masonry code of Chong Qing. And it is benefit to the popularization of perforated brick. Analysis of experimental result has show 4 points below. â‘  Shear strength of perforated brick masonry is composed of mortar cohesive strength and pin key's shear strength. Because mortar pin keys in perforated brick masonry, the straight-line shear strength of perforated brick masonry is higher than that of solid brick. The correlativity and law of perforated and solid brick masonry under shear-compression combined loading are similar. But As a whole, combined shearing ability of perforated brick is weaker than solid brick masonry. This fact is more obvious specially when mortar strength is low.â‘¡ Cohesive anchorage strength of steel tie bar is composed of mortar cohesive strength and friction between bar and mortar. When anchorage length is longer than 500mm, enough strength can be supported. Suggestted steel tie bar anchorage lengths in perforated brick masonry on aseismatic and non aseismatic request have been given. â‘¢ In KP1 type perforated brick masonry, expansion bolt especially design for perforated brick is prefer, because it can form "self- anchor" effect and hold tightly in brick hole. Experimental study indicate though anchorage strength of expansion bolt embedded in different position is vary, but it can reach or exceed the design value.
