The Switched reluctance motor (SRM) is a machine which has such characteristics as simple structure, low-cost, flexible control, reliable operation, etc. The SRD with such a motor has advantages over DC or AC drives.The TMS320F240 made in the TI company U.S. A with the characteristics of the improved Harvard structure, flowing water line operation, excellent instruction and outside function, is used to meet a wide range of digital motor control and embedded control applications. With these advantages, the speed of calculation increases consumedly, and the construction is simplified greatly. SRM, which is controlled by DSP, has already found extensive concerns and shown its ability to compete in market. The paper will focus on the theory of controller design for SRM based on DSP.The paper is divided into six sections. Section one presents a review of SRD at home and abroad. The principle and construction of SRD are also described. In section two, the development of DSP is presented and the module units of the TMS320F240 used in this paper are explained. The third section contains the details of the design of hardware for the SRD controller based on the TMS320F240. In this section, an H~type power converter for this deign is selected by considering the characteristics of various types of power converter, its switch mode being analyzed; and the electric circuits including protective circuit are designed. The fourth section contains the design of software for control system. In this section, routines, such as PWM subroutine, measure subroutine, PI subroutine, are used to obtain control over SRD with a speed feedback loop. The modular microprogrammings are adopted in order to attain versatility and readability. The measure of Anti-interference is taken here for the work of hardware electric circuit and software procedure. The fifthsection presents results of experiments under the different conditions. The results show that the theory of the system and the method for the control are practicable. The final section gives the conclusion and envisions.
