Multimedia Computer Assisted Instruction is a dynamic approach by computers contributing to interactive teaching and learning between teachers and students with common functions including storage, disposition and presentation of general information data such as text, graphic, image, music, animation, etc.As building techniques stride forward by leaps and bounds, the application of CAI to special courses instructed in civil engineering has greatly helped to achieve outstanding teaching results with less effort, especially for deeper understanding of abstract problems involving bone-broken memorizing hints. The CAI software pack is a part of bilingual course and relative CAI software development for Basic Concepts of Concrete Structures in civil engineering funded by Wuhan University Teaching Reform Project. Based on design title and edited through a flow process chart, the software pack developed by Athorware6.0 involves content instructions, leaning appraisal, interval music, help instructions. Content instructions involve the content of points in teaching materials, of codes for the design and of the difference between domestic codes and foreign codes. In the learning appraisal, the functions of aiding-test mode and self-testing mode are realized. Through adding page title and compute title directly, teachers can extend the software pack without rebuilding a date bank. In the Interval music, functions of music selection and specialized network exploration are combined. Students can learn while relaxing. The operation and expansion of this software pack are given in the help instructions for convenient up date. To give the students a perceptual knowledge in their learning activities, some typical 2-D curve animations and 3-D animations are made to simulate the loading failure of structural members in this software pack. The author will be much gratified if it can play an excellent role for better understanding of Concrete Structures because of its dynamic interaction, friendly interface and above all, convenient operation.
