A dynamic model based on the intermittent chain drive system is established withdamp and other influence factors considered, furthermore, the dynamic characteristic ofthe system is discussed thoroughly through different motion curves. Firstly, kinematic analysis of the intermittent chain system is presented. The study onpolygonal or chordal action, the associated impact between chains and sprockets andinertia forces of lumped mass in the system is carried out with different motion curves.Based on it, a calculation with analysis on the sample of the intermittent chain drive indie-cutting machine is carried out, in expectation of finding ways to improve theperformance of the intermittent chain drive system from the point of view of kinematics. Considering the factors that influence the dynamic characteristics of the intermittentchain drive system, a dynamic model which can reflect the characteristics of theintermittent chain system accurately is established by applying finite element method(FEM ), and the corresponding differential equation is set up. Modal SuperpositionMethod (MSM) is employed to solve the equation. An initial analysis on the dynamicperformance of the system is made through different motion curves. Some valuableresults are provided for engineering design and manufacture. Finally, an experimental study on the dynamics of the intermittent chain system isstarted with a novel experimental apparatus designed and constructed. Another chaindrive is attached to keep the signal transmission wire rotating at the same speed as thechain drive to prevent it from winding, a collecting ring device similar to generator brushis used to lead-out the signals of acceleration and the strain of the intermittent chain.Meanwhile a grooved cam-link slide mechanism is designed to keep the signal wireworking well.
