The biology protection technique of the side slopes of Gu-wang( from Gu yao zi to Wang juan Hang) super highway are studied, to probe the importance meanings of the biology protection technique in the superhighway side slopes protection. Experiment is divided into two parts. The first part is the experiment of the selection of herbaceous plants, namely, to studies of resistance and adaptability of ten kinds of herbaceous plants in Gu-wang superhighway's side slopes. The second part which is divided into two groups is contrast experiment, and there are three treatments in each group , namely, the first group is treatment A (.Melilotus office-inalis (L. ) Desr. + Festuca arundinacea Schreb. + Medicago sativa L. + Fes-tuca rubra L. ), treament B (Coronilla varia L. + Bromus inermis Leyss. + Medicago sativa L. + Festuca arundinacea Schreb. )and treatment C(Coronilla varia L. + Bromus inermisLyess. ); the second group is treatment D (Cragana korshinskil komar. ) , treatment E (Aorpha fruticosa L. ) and treatment F ( Tamarix cninensisLour. ) . The dynamics, characteristics and the inside construction of plant communities , and the effects of biology protection are studied respectively. The results are as follows:(1) The resistance of Medicago sativa L. , Festuca arundinacea Schreb., Trifolium repens L. , Coronilla varia L. , Astragalus adsurgen Pall, and Medicago falcate L. is the strongest; that of Bromus inermis Lyess. and Festuca rubra L. is stronger; and that of Agropyron desertorum Schult. and Melilotus officinalis (L. ) Desr. is the weakest in ten kinds of herbaceous plants.(2) The adaptability of Medicago sativaL., Melilotus officinalis (L. ) Desr. , Festuca arundinacea Schreb. , Astragalus adsurgens Pall, and Trif-olium repens L. is the strongest, that of Coronilla varia L. and Medicago falcateL. is stronger, and that of Agropyron desertorum Schult., Bromus inermis Leyss. and Festuca rubra L. is the weakest in ten kinds of herbaceous plants.(3) The adaptability of Tamarix chinensis Lour, is the strongest, that of Aorpha fruticosa L. is stronger, and that of Cragana korshinskil komar is weakest in three kinds of shrubs.(4) Seasonal distribution of aboveground biomass can be described by Logistic equation in three treatments of herbaceous plants, and the equation is:B=Bss/[l+ae'kt](5) The structure of canopy is reasonable in three treatments of herbaceous plants. The distribution shape of aboveground biomass is like apyramid upward and that of underground bio5mass is like a pyramid lying upside-down.(6) The effects of protection side slopes of herbaceous plants are better than those of shrubs, namely, the effects of earthwork lattice cellula-three dimensional net are better than those of scale pits of shrubs.(7) The effects of Water and soil conservation, total coverage of plant community and the biomass of treatment B are the best in three treatments of herbaceous plants, those of treatment A are better, and those of treatment C are weaker.(8) The effects of protection side slopes of treatment E (Aorpha fruticosaL. ) are the best, those of treatment F ( Tamarixc/u'nensislour. ) are better, and those of treatment D (Cragana korshinskil komar. ) are the weakest in three kinds of treatments of shrubs.(9) The method of protection side slopes for planting single kind of shrubs and not planting the ground plants is not a valid way in protection side slopes of the superhighway.(10) With herbaceous plants to protect side slopes, the physical and chemical characteristics of soil improve obviously, and pH and the total salt of soil reduce, and soil fertility increase. Three kinds of plant communities have already been stable, and form the virtuous cycle of theweather - soil - plant* together with the local climate and soil.
