Kunming Railway Terminal is located in Kunming city, the capital of Yunnan Province. Yunnan is located in the connective spot of economic intercourse among Asia Mainland, South Asia Subcontinent and Middle South Peninsula three areas. Yunnan is in the southwest of China, and is a special area where the Chinese Mainland extends to Middle South Peninsula. Yunnan is the nearest province of China to the countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia, is the shortcut connecting Europe and Africa that needn't pass through the Strait of Malacca, and is center area of the third "continent bridge" improving the economic intercourse between Asia and Europe.There are Guiyang-Kunming, Chengdu-Kunming and Nanning-Kunming three arterial railways leading into Kunming Terminal at present. Guiyang-Kunming railway joins up with the rail networks of East China and Middle South. Thereinto, Anbian to Meihuashan section of Neijiang-Kunming railway that is being built is the passage through which the coal, phosphorus and ore exploited in Yunnan and Guizhou are transported to Sichuan. So Guiyang-Kunming railway will play the diffluent and adjustive roles in southwest rail network. Chengdu-Kunming railway connects with the railways in Sichuan and Northwest, in which the Guangtong to Dali section is the important passage leading to the west of Yunnan. Yunnan-Tibet railway that is planned to be built and pan-Asian railway will form the rail network of the west of Yunnan, which will play an important role in exploiting the west of Yunnan and Tibet, solidifying national defense and pioneering Southeast Asian and South Asian international market. Nanning-Kunming railway is the important channel that communicates southwest and South of China littoral, is the shortest passage through which the material of southwest area is exported, and play an important role in shipping out coal and phosphorus of Yunnan and Guizhou two provinces. Kunming-Hanoi metre-gauge line connects with frontier towns between Yunnan andVietnam-Kaiyuan and Hekou, and is one of the passages leaving the country toSoutheast Asia. Kunming-Yuxi railway and Zhongyicun-Baoxing railway are local railways, which will accelerate the exploiting of materials of south of the terminal such as coal and phosphorus and economic development. The gradual actualization ofKunming Terminal general layout has a deep significance to the development of Yunnan economy, the building up of international economic cooperation and the expansion of expansion of export-oriented economy.Since Kunming Terminal was built in 1970s, it has experienced three rebuildingand expanding engineering constructions-electrification of Guiyang-Kunmingrailway in 1980s, construction of Nanning-Kunming railway in 1990s and electrification of Chengdu-Kunming railway, then the present situation come into being generally. Now, the three railways joining in terminal have all been electrified.According to the present situation and the developmental and constructive demand in the recent years, this paper forecasts the transportation volume in 2020 and 2050 and analyzes the character of transportation volume on the basis of analyzing the demands of local economic development on the transport capacity of railway. The developmental direction of Kunming Terminal in the future, the problem of capacities and layout of the main terminal loop, marshalling yards, passenger stations and freight stations are studied in depth. According to the reasonable project of organizing transportation, I put forward the new situation of Kunming Terminal in the future, that is:developing the south loop line, which is in favor of exploiting materials, into circular terminal from the present ordinal terminal; changing the present one passenger station into one main station and one secondary station gradually; programming secondary marshalling yard on the basis of making the best of the east marshalling yard of Kunming; developing the Dushupu station as industrial station; optimizing and organizing the intrinsic freight stations in terminal and constructing contain...
