The traction substations are the power supply sources for the high-speed railway. Since it may affects the whole railway system when the traction substation shut down, it's important to develop the function of the comprehensive automation system of traction substation.This thesis is mainly concern about the hardware designation and realization of the comprehensive automation system of traction substation. Three advanced hardware technique are used in this comprehensive automation system: the embedded system based on ARM core, the enhanced 32-bit floating-point Digital Signal Processor, and the In System Programmable Logic Device. Firstly, the railway power supply system and its characters have been introduced, especially the developments and actuality of the comprehensive automation system of traction substation.Secondly, we generally discussed the uses of the Digital Signal Processors, then the structure of TMS320C32. The details of embedded system based on ARM core also have been discussed. And then we talked about the structure of Samsung S3C44B0X. The embedded operate systems are one of the subjects that have been discussed in this paper. The In System Programmable Logic Device is the other one of the major subjects too. We totally discussed the structure and characters of the CPLD chip in the MAX7000S family, and then the use of EDA tools MAX+PLUS II. We also deeply studied the VHDL.The realizations of the hardware are the important parts of the thesis. The realization of DSP board includes base circuit of DSP, memory structure, AD convert and Dual-port RAM. The designation of ARM board is mainly about the use of Liquid Crystal Display, touch-screen, Ethernet network interface and the Controller Area Network. With a sample, we also discussed how to use VHDL to design the hardware circuit, and how to use the wave simulation tools of MAX+PLUS-II to check the designations of VHDL.At the last of this paper, we shortly discussed the structure of the software, and what influence was done to the user's software by the (COS-II and (CLinux.
