The Research Of Modern Architecture In Shanghai Jiaotong University (1896-1949)

Shanghai Jiaotong University is one of the earliest national universities in China, It is also the first national university in Shanghai. Its predecessor is Nannang College, which was founded in 1896. Today the modern architecture (1894-1949) in the campus are still in use. This is a precious architectural heritage for us. First this article discusses the history of Shanghai Jiaotong University, then referring to the history of Shanghai modern architecture, divides the period of the development history of the planning and buildings of Shanghai Jiaotong University. According to those periods, the article analyzes the evolvement of the planning for the campus, the history, the architectural style and the building technique of the modern architecture in the campus which is based with the fully research and investigation. At last, the article puts the modern architecture of Shanghai Jiaotong University into the background of the history of the modern architecture in Shanghai, through the contrast, expound the reason engendered the architectural style, and summarize the achievement of design and construct of the modern architecture in Shanghai Jiaotong University.
