The gross amount of water resource is deficient in our country, and the spatiotemporal distribution is disproportion in addition. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt measures to reallocate the water resource not only in area, but also in time, in order to utilize the water resource fully. Along with the transbasin water diversion project being constructed in our country, it is very important to carry out optimal operation research of hydropower station reservoir system with transbasin water diversion.This paper firstly introduces the advance in hydropower station reservoir system optimal operation in China and abroad. The paper deal with characteristic of hydropower station reservoir system with transbasin-water-diversion project, and then, a model for optimal operation of the system is established. According to the theory of large scale system, the method to solve this model is studied. The Genetic Algorithm is used for optimization of the diversion water volume, and stochastic dynamic programming is used for reservoir optimization of hydropower stations.Beside, this paper uses VB to develop software which can be used in optimization of reservoir operation of the hydropower stations with transbasin water diversion. Good interface makes it more easy to use and spread. At last, this paper gives an example of D~N transbasin-water-diversion hydropower station reservoir system. The result shows that the system operation optimization can bring an increase of 10% in electric energy. It is indicated that it is very significant and necessary to research optimal operation of hydropower station reservoir system with transbasin water diversion project.
