Rubber forming process plays an important role in today's aircraftindustry. Die design for regular flange bending using rubber forming has anempirical formula after years of production practice and experimental research.But, at present, die design for irregular flange bending still primarily dependson" try-error". This paper mainly focused on simulating the rubber forming of flangebending using Marc software, investigated the effect of blank holder added tothe rubber forming of flange bending. This research has two parts. On one side,the function of blank holder in the rubber forming of flange bending isdescribed at large, through comparing the rubber forming of flange bendingwith blank holder or not. On the other side, using the thickness of sheet ,forming space and stress variety as analytical factor, through considering theangle of blank holder, the height difference between the blank holder and sheetand the distance of the die and the blank holder separately ,the influence ofthem in the flange bending using rubber forming was analyzed. The results reported in this dissertation are useful for further study on thesimulation of more complex parts through FEM to aid the die design andforming process in engineering practice.
