Virtual Instrument (VI) technology is nowadays a significant direction of research and application in the field of measurement and control. Testing of many parameters gradually to speed-up, intelligent, integrated evolvement already becomes a certain trend. In order to raise efficiency and reduce the cost of testing, the opening design ideology of VI offers effectual way and method. The application of VI in the field of tension measurement and control automatically is studied in this article, which includes systematic architecture, software and hardware construction and development of the program.Through an overall analysis of the system, the function configuration, organic framework and information structure have been explained separately in the paper. According to the variable rule of tension and velocity, a control thought taking double closed loop comes forward, which adapts an asynchronous electromotor as power source and a magnetic particle clutch as force apparatus. The motor is competent for long low-speed or stopping up and the clutch has fine characteristic of control with torque. Sensors as forward access obtain signal, an industrial computer with abundant hardware resource as background utilize set-in boards based on PCI bus and serial modules to fulfill data transmission and instruction communication. The system software is established based on the LabVIEW platform using the graphical programming language. It fully utilizes a design method of modularization to develop every function module and testing program, achieves tension-loading trial of equipment, real-time state monitoring, analysis and management of testing data. It establishes the foundation for virtual tension measurement and control system to an in-depth study and development.The accomplished measurement and control system of tension based on VI is possessed of friendly interface, comprehensive functions, nicer transplanting and finer expansibility. It plays an exemplary role to further development of tension measurement system and has an important meaning in the theory and practical application.
