Children And Community Environment

Accompanied with the reconstruction of economy and society, great changes have taken place in urban living since 1990s in China. Great social competition and privacy reinforcement have made difference in public domain and our daily lives. On the other hand, housing has become a marketing angle, thus it's quite common to see neighbors become strangers and little activities outside in communities. Children and the elders are close attached to communities, for their little participation in politics and economy. So it is important to know how children acknowledge and use the environment around them, and it help to find ways to better communities.The purpose of this research is to examine the relation between children and the San-de community. Several methods are employed such as structured field observation, surveys of children and in-depth interviews to get to know the outdoor life style of children in San-de Li, their cognition of San-de Li, how much they are attached to the community, how they use the environment, what are the expects of them and the influence of community environment on children's intercourse. After some discussion on the findings, a few suggestions are made both on the material side and the social side of community construction by the end of the essay.
