Traditional communication of AMRS is based on the wiredradio such as power line, phone line and so on. Their transmission distance and speed are limited. With its overcast of the country and the data transmission function, GSM network will be widely used in the AMRS.This wireless AMRS makes use of the GPRS and SMS which supported by the GSM network. In this thesis it mainly discusses the development of data-acquisition terminal and the design of meter reading software. In the design of the data-acquisition terminal monolithic-computer (51series) is used to control GR47 GPRS Modem, with the use of AT commands it realizes GPRS and SMS communication. The meter reading software is runned on the monitor computer, and the software includes communication and data management. In the communication part, multithreading and winsock technology are used to implement GPRS communication with the data-acquisition terminal, and AT commands is also used to realize SMS transfering from TC35T connected with the monitor computer to GR47. In the second part SQL Server is depended on to deal with the data collected from the ammeter. The AMRS presented in this thesis is applyed to transformer substations and great power consumers. We choose the suited communication style and equipment, which lower the cost greatly and fulfill the requirement of customers. At the same time reliability and real-time is also fully considered. It is proved that the effect is good.
