The paper describes the research on an automated test system based on virtual instrument for the TACAN navigation airborne equipment and it's realization. TACAN is the main system of navigation for air force, and the research on automated test technology for the TACAN navigation airborne equipment is important. The paper introduces the principles of TACAN navigation and the TACAN navigation airborne equipment, describes the automated test technology and the development of military automated test system, and analyses the necessity of the automated test system for the TACAN navigation airborne equipment. The automated test system for the TACAN navigation airborne equipment is integrated by GPIB bus, the computer controls all testing equipments, the users can operate the computer on the friendly interface of virtual instrument panel, the testing tasks such as sampling, analysis, processing, storage and display are finished by the LabVIEW program, the automated testing for the TACAN navigation airborne equipment is made by software. The paper introduces the technologies related to the system design such as virtual instrument, LabVIEW and GPIB bus, describes the design idea, the system structure and the software and hardware design of GPIB interfaces in the automated test system for the TACAN navigation airborne equipment, the testing methods of the TACAN navigation airborne equipment and how to carry out in the LabVIEW program are discussed in detail, the design and programming skills of automated test software are described.
