In the water treatment project practice at home and abroad, the quartz sand media has a lot of disadvantages filters the medium as the tradition, it has bigger hydraulicpressure loss, shorter period and lower comprehensive technological benefit. To aim at this problem, this paper has proposed a new filtration medium- ceramics filter.With its good physics and mechanics performance, the ceramics filter is been applied to water treatment more and more. Presently, the ceramics filter is mainly applied to the sewage and waste water treatment. However, it is still rarely applied to drinking water treatment. Thereby, to study application the ceramics filter to the filter craft of supply water has the great theory and realistic meaning.This paper, on the base of analysis of reviewing systematically the development of filtration and media filter, makes a relative system experiment research and theory analysis for the performance of filtration by ceramic media.Some post model experiments on this media(d=0.8~ 1.2mm K80=1.48) have been done in the water treatment plant of White Crain Mouth first, in order to confirm tentatively its better filter velocity and filter thickness,then the filter was tested in the pool model.The comparison experiments of removing suspended matters from raw water between ceramics filter and sand media filter have been done firstly. The conclusion is that the ceramics filter has a lot of advantages over the sand filter. It has good quality of little hydraulic pressure loss, longer period and capabilities of impurity. The results also indicate that the ceramics filter has capabilities of impurity in every unit and shock loading.This text carried on experimental study under the condition to different water temperature also, the result shows outlet water turbid controls filtration period in the cases of low temperature and low turbid, while hydraulic pressure loss controlsfiltration period in the cases of higher temperature; Moreover , the performance of filtration in the higher temperature is better.This paper has also created an equation of hydraulic pressure loss by analyzing experiment results of ceramics filter.As backwash is the key of renewing and keeping up the function of filter, some factor optimization experiments of backwash have been done. The optimum operating parameters of backwash of ceramics media are follows: qw=16.6~17.8 L/s· m2, t=6min.
