Closely spaced parallel approach (CSPA) can significantly improve the capacityof airport with closely-spaced parallel runways under Instrument MeteorologicalConditions (IMC), and reduce the flight delay. The design of CSPA system is focusedin this thesis. Current parallel runway operations and their shortcomings were firstlydiscussed briefly. Then factors which affect the design of CSPA were exhibited indetail, the method of Markov model was introduced and explicitly discussed inanalyzing the reliability and safety of CSPA, and the alerting logic and airborneinformation for lateral spacing (AILS) were elementarily introduced. Computersimulations of a typical trajectory blundering into neighbouring aircraft's approachingdirection were implemented and the results were utilized in analyzing the influence oftotal system error, reaction delay, etc, to system safety. The formation of waketurbulence and its impact on flight safety were discussed, and the influence of lateralmotion of wake turbulence on CSPA was deeply studied. Finally, paired approach, themost concerned procedure of CSPA, was introduced, and the sensitivity wasconducted.
