Facing the tough market competition, it is urgent for corporations how to reduce the designing period, improve the quality of the product. Author studies the CAD system of the mechanical product and successfully develops a CAD system of the Counterbalance Electric Forklift Truck. This system will help us realize the technology of the Case-based Reasoning which is applied to the design of the Counterbalance Electric Forklift Truck.At first, author introduces the background, development and application of CAD system and how to apply the technology of the Case-based Reasoning to the CAD system of the mechanical product. And then, the author sets forth the frame of the CAD system of the Counterbalance Electric Forklift Truck, the main modules and the operation process. The author also touches upon the correlative technology that will be used in the CAD system of the Counterbalance Electric Forklift Truck such as CBR, PDM, Concurrent Design.In the article, the author will study the counterbalance electric forklift truck. In order to realize the CAD system of the Counterbalance Electric Forklift Truck, the author founds the design database of the counterbalance electric forklift truck that is included the 3D solid model and 2D engineering drawing of the parts and the database of the material. In the variant design process, the author adopts Top-Down method and drives the dimension, the feature of the parts and assembly according the request of the variant product to design the new product. The parts are checked through the CAE module after the parts are designed. And then the design module in the CAD system can quickly bring the engineering drawing and BOM according to the request of the product.
