Substation plays an important role in power system. Substation is extremely important for power system in running safely and economy because it not only converts but also distributes power energy. With computers applying, in relay protection continuously, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) become important equipment in Substation Automation System (SAS). Communication networks and systems standard in substations — IEC 61850 published recently reflects new technologies in substation automation , computer software technology and communication technology.The thesis firstly studys and analyses the key technology contents of IEC 61850 and points out that the most important characteristic of IEC 61850 is that it introduces object-oriented method to establish uniform information modelsof functions in substation. The core of IEC 61850----ACSI(Abstract Communication Service Interface) is actually a whole set of object-oriented information models and their services. The thesis establishes information models at different levels of distance protection in transmission-line protection IED, then analyses the dynamic information flow among Logical Nodes to make clear that information exchanged between IEDs is actually information exchanged between Logical Nodes.
