As the main energy in the industry and daily life, coal plays an important part in the energetic structure and has a strategic significance. The coal resource in our country is abundant, but distributes in several places. At the mean time, for the different economical development level and population distribution, the demand for the coal is lopsided too. The population density in the coast areas is dense, and the economic level there is very developed. So the coal demand is larger. On the countrary, their coal resource is rather scarce. All of those lead to the large demand for coal transportation.Coal is the primary cargo in the waterway transportation. So the forecasting of the amount of coal shipping is the basis and foundation of the formulation and construction of the port, fleet and related traffic transportation. Whether the coal shipping system in our country is fit to the demands of coal transportation, is one of the main problems the national macromanagement cares about. Qinhuangdao Port is the biggest port of coal transportation in our country and plays an important role in the waterway transportation of coal. Referring to the development and variety of coal market structure and demand in the future, the right measures and counter strategies should be applied urgently. This issue researched the main national coal supplying market, consumer market and the main passages of coal transportation etc. Take Qinhuangdao Port as the example, after the collecting related datas, setting up the model, forecasting the amount and development of coal of the port and other ports and analysizing scarcity of the port now and the feasibility of building 100-thousand-ton waterway in Qinhuangdao Port. According to the results, the issue puts forward the conclusion that the port should build the waterway. At the same time, it advances the project in detail.
