With the continually developing of the diesel engine technique, it became more complex to control the electronic speed governor, and the request for the control system also became more and more stringent. The tradition PID now in general use in diesel engines, can not meet the power plant's require for the precision and robustness. Thus, a more advanced control strategy should be designed in order to improve the precision, response rate and so on.In this paper, by reading quantity of papers in the fields of diesel engine speed control, the merits and demerits of both of the PID and fuzzy control strategy are analyzed, and a new fuzzy-PID controller which can meet the speed regulating characteristic of diesel engine are proposed by combining the two control algorithm. In order to adapt different operating conditions and external environment, the modification of cooling water temperature, inlet air temperature and pressure were added in controllerThe numerical model of diesel engine, controller and actuator of the 6135-type diesel engine are established in the Matlab/Simulink, and the fuzzy-PID controller model has been embedded in the diesel engine model, so that they can integrate together and simulate simultaneously. The off-line simulation is realized in the Matlab/Simulink by a computer, by this means, the proposed fuzzy-PID controller is modulated, optimized and verified, then an optimized fuzzy-PID controller is obtained. The fuzzy-PID was programmed by C programming language, and download into the MCU of the diesel engine speed governor system. By operating on the practical diesel engine, control the 6135-type diesel engine, and made the further verification and perfection of the fuzzy-PID control algorithm, optimize the performance of the controller. The simulation results and experimental results show that the control algorithm can effectively improve the performance of diesel engine speed.
