ISAD is the abbreviation of the combined Integrated Starter Alternator Damper. Besides regenerating braking, the new integrated system in vehicle also has performances including engine cranking, engine boost if necessary, engine or driveline damping, and provides a more efficient power and higher torque output platform. As a new type of machine developed since 1970s, Switched Reluctance Machine became a strong candidate as the motor of ISAD because of its prominent merits such as inherent simple and solid construction, low rotor inertia, high performance price ratio, low manufacturing cost, ease to maintenance, superior and robust performance even under harsh conditions, especially four-quadrant operation, etc.This paper mainly discusses the application of switched reluctance machine in the ISAD system of vehicle. According to the functions and characteristics of ISAD, we built mathematic model under motor and generator conditions based on SRM's performance and features, and then, present distinguishing criterions of optimal excitation parameters under starting, boosting, generating, damping conditions. Based on these criterions we construct SRM's control strategies under different working modes of ISAD. In the end, the validity of control strategies under all modes is proved through simulation by Matlab and its toolbox Simulink, and experiment by hardware test stand which core is the digital signal processor-TMS320F240.
