Due to rapid economy developing, urbanization boosting and tap water popularization ratio increasing in China, existing municipal water supply system couldn't meet the requirement of urban development. So most of cities in China make reconstruction or extension to existing water supply network even construct new, which made network cost more and more weighty in the whole water system. Thus, the tradition design method on the basis of the economic flow velocity and boundary flow, will bring very great error, and the squander in investement is becoming more and more obvious. Therefore, the water supplypipe network design theory based on the system engineering theory will be attached more and more importance to. Research to resolve the technique and economy problem effectively has significant sense in water network designs.Firstly the water supply pipe network was systematically classified, then the object function and constraint condition in the system model were researched. Analysised and improved the defect in the tradition water supply pipe network system model, analysised the effect of economic parameters to the optimized results and put forward a consummate mathematic model to water supply pipe network. Using Generalized Reduced Gradient Method(GRG), solved the nonlinear and poly-model. Based on these model and solutions, a MATLAB program has been designed, which is powerful, interface friendly, and satisfactory, useful to calculation and analysis.At last, the water supply pipe network of Shanyin county was illustrated. Using the established MATLAB program, calculated and optimized this county's water network. Compared, analysised and evaluated the optimized results and the originalscheme.We have obtained the following conclusions:1. It is indispensable and feasible establishing a optimical model to different networks.2. This theory of poly-control point to pipe network pressure made the water supply network more actual.3. GRG is more valid, simple and convenient to solve the optimization of single headwater to looped pipe network.4. By means of illustration, the optimization calculator program is proved practicable, which is based on MATLAB language.
