Advanced friction and wear (F&W) tester and testing technology are of great significance for the tribological research. With the increasing development of computer technology, automatic testing technology and intelligent control technology, the application of these techniques to the F&W testing system has become a very important aspect in the modern tribological testing research. In this thesis, the above mentioned techniques were successfully integrated in the developed measurement and control (M&C) system for the MPV-20 model F&W tester.A general M&C system was built for the MPV-20 model F&W tester based on the advanced tribological testing technology in the thesis. The intelligent collection, transmission and processing of the testing signals and intelligent control of the system were presented. And then the functions of the developed M&C software and the used techniques were introduced in detail. The developed M&C system, which was built by using serial port communication technique, fuzzy control theory and relation database technology, has the functions of real-time collection, online analysis, saving and display of the signals of load, friction torque, line speed, friction coefficient and temperature with the supports of the developed software programmed by Visual Basic 6.0 (SP6) and the corresponding hardware. Furthermore, the system can automatically adjust the speed and load according to the set processes during the test. Therefore, the F&W test process can be real-timely and quantitatively evaluated, measured and controlled. The software has friendly interfaces. Due to the use of the multithread in Visual Basic, the stabilization and reliability of the system can be ensured. In addition, the use of Agent Oriented Design technology and Object Oriented software engineering method will make it more convenient to upgrade the system.
