Based on micro-computer and network, substation integrated automation system (IAS) is the trend of modern power technology. It carries out modern management and accordingly changes the traditional mode of main structure and duty maintainance, which matches modern manufacture mode, it plays an important part in both theory research and project application, to weigh reliability and evaluate reliability index based on IAS characteristics and find the weak leak and then make appropriate decision to improve performance. The paper analyses reliability of function configuration reliability and does research on internal communication network, and compare effect of different network scheme on system function, then discusses reliability index of network, the method in which the Monte Carlo method is combined with fault tree to perform reliability evaluation is proposed, i.e., by use of fault tree analysis (FTA) the failure model of substation integrated automation system is built and by use of Monte Carlo method in quantitative analysis the reliability index and cell importance parameter are obtained in order to find the weak link of the system. Basic cell importance parameter and basic cell module importance parameter reflect how important the cell is in the system from different angle. Reliability index are distributed to every cell in order to match the system reliability level. Meanwhile, by the variable parameters method, the system's reliability sensitivity is analyzed to find the critical factors in reliability, in order to make best improvement in the system reliability level.Based on reliability definition, in consideration of the system characteristics, reliability index and evaluation method are proposed, reliability index distribution and reliability sensitivity analysis are conducted, which are instructive to the system's design and reconstruction.
