As the development and popularization of three-dimensional CAD software, the application of computer technology is no longer restricted in conventional methods, it impose important influence on many aspect, such as the method of process planning, the technical resource and management pattern of product data. The numerical control process planning, assembly designing and technical resource managing, which based on 3D CAD software platform have become the new demand of the informationization of enterprises. Aiming at the traits of 3D CAD software, this thesis research a new process planning method for 3D CAD software platform, and conduct a inside study on the research of 3D CAPP software. Firstly, an abstract representation model for process feature is defined in this thesis, the representation model contain the feature parameters, the relations with other features and the process planning designed for this feature. And then, two materialization process feature representation models are derived from the abstract representation model. The one is memory data model that built on object-oriented method; the other is file storage model that built on XML language. The memory representation model is designed as a series of data structures that contain the feature parameters and relations, the memory representation model give an interface to access the feature data in computer memory. The file storage model is designed in XML language, the feature parameters are represented as elements and attributes and the feature relations is represented as the hierarchy of elements. The file storage model implements the persisting storage of process features. The two materialization models can be conversed to each other by a conversion interface, therefore, a whole representation and storage system of process feature can be built on these two models. The organization of technical resource is also studied in this thesis and a knowledge base that based on database technology is designed to implement a feature-oriented process planning method. This method makes use of the process feature representation and storage system as data supporting, complete a process planning generation system. Under the support of these theories, a feature-oriented process planning generation system that based on UG CAD platform is developed. With the testing works on the interrelated examples, the software system has validated the feasibility and practicability of the method researched in this thesis.
